About Costa Rica Brumas Villa Sarchi
Arrived by airfreight mid summer 2025, new crop coffee, Direct Trade and imported directly. Arrived in grainpro liners. One of several coffees imported from Brumas Del Zurqui this season.
Villa Sarchi (also called La Luisa or Villalobos Bourbon) is naturally occurring dwarf mutation of Bourbon, thus it is a sweet like other Bourbons, yet lower to the ground and easier to harvest. The varietal likes challenging conditions to reach its full potential (slowgrowth helps develop sugars). It is ideally suited to Brumas’ high elevation and strong winds.

We have several coffees this year Brumas del Zurqui farms and processed at their mill. Producer Juan Ramon Alvarado puts much care and attention to detail into both farming and processing, and in recent years has been more experimental with respect to varieties that he is developing. The mill was established in 2004 on his El Beneficio farm, and processes coffees from several other farms.
Juan Ramon produces a number of varieties and he owns a couple of separate properties in Tarrazu and in the Central Valley. His notable micromill is in the Central Valley.

Cup Characteristics: Aromas of cedar and cherry. Flavors of honey, dark chocolate, green apple, lemon and lime. Light cherry notes too. Pleasant green apple tartness on the finish. Clean and sweet.
Roasting notes: These coffee beans are hard and durable, thus they can withstand higher heat and longer roasting times, doing very well to second crack. But do yourself a favor and pull the coffee before the roast dominates; the more delicate flavors will be revealed.
