The SR900 is the latest model from Fresh Roast (September 2026) and is their first roaster to incorporate the use of profiles, through their proprietary Roast-Tech application. With the installed app on Windows, macOS, iPad, and iPhone (not yet on Android) and Bluetooth, the roaster can make real-time adjustments to heat, fan speed, and timing with an interface designed for accuracy and consistency. Profiles can be saved, recalled and repeated for subsequent roasts. Firmware updates are through the app. The included temperature probe now measures bean temperature in real time. While Roast-Tech adds a great deal of additional control and fun to your coffee roasting, the roaster can operate without it.

The SR900 uses vertical fluid-bed roasting to keep coffee beans moving through a controlled stream of heated air. Consistent movement supports even heat distribution, quick response to setting changes, and an efficient cooling cycle. Profiles and roast data are stored locally on the device running Roast-Tech. One active profile can be stored on the roaster at a time.

Roast-tech connects with the new Fresh Roast SR900 model to provide real time temperature graphing, custom roast profiles, automatic profile execution, and full manual control from your compatible devices. The temperature probe plugs into an port that sits between the glass roasting chamber and a jack in the base. 

The SR900 features independently adjustable heat and fan controls, allowing users to customize roast development according to their preferences. Roast progress can be monitored through the transparent roast chamber, enabling visual observation of bean color and movement throughout the roast cycle. The roaster includes an integrated cooling cycle that rapidly cools roasted coffee beans at the end of the roast process. Proper cooling helps preserve roast quality and reduces the risk of overdevelopment after roasting.

The SR900 is an addition to the Fresh Roast model lineup and not a replacment to any prior version. Like other Fresh Roast models, the chaff that comes off green coffee beans during roasting rises in the airstream and is trapped in chaff collector at the top of the roaster. It should be noted that the roaster is tall, as the new built in section where the temperature probe reads add a few inches to overall height.

Bean Capacity:

• For Washed (wet) processed coffee capacity is 8 ounces or 227 grams
• For Natural (dry) processed coffee capacity is 6 ounces or 170 grams
• For either process a minimum roast of 4 ounces is required

Natural process coffees produce more chaff and thus a smaller roast capacity is recommended.

• Roasting capacity up to 8 ounces or 227 grams, roughly 1/2 pound (for washed processed coffees)

Conclusion: This newest SR900 model from Fresh Roast offer beginners and experienced roasters a good tool for roasting beans up to half pound of green coffee and now with profile repeatability. The roaster performs quickly and is capable of the full roasted coffee range from light to dark. It has no smoke suppression, but that also makes it possible to do dark roasts.
