Sumatra Iskandar is a washed coffee, very unusual for coffee from this origin. By washing the coffee it must go through a controlled fermentation stage followed by drying. The beans used in Iskandar's preparation are absolutely top grade and, after fermenting, they are completely sun-dried. Because of the intense labor involved in producing this particular coffee only 1000 bags, 4 containers, can be shipped annually. The coffee is grown in the Medan region in Northern Sumatra near Lake Tawar. Expect a different Sumatra coffee experience as the majority of Sumatra coffee is prepared by the natural, dry method. Washing the coffee adds some acidity and brightness to it, however, its characteristic heavy body is intact. Cup characteristics: Very clean on the palate. Heavy, syrupy body but with good acidity. It is said to have a butterscotch flavor.
